The original clowns at hospitals were called Shriner clowns. They would hang out at hospitals at the pediatric wards cheering up the sick children. Beyond that you will often find them in pictures on the walls of doctors, dentists, and often around hospitals. It has positive effects on most small children. Extensive study of laughter as therapy has revealed a lot more in this area.

Researchers have spent a lot of time on the study of laughter and how it affects the body in many ways. Did you realize that laughter can do a lot more for you than just put a smile on your face? It plays a strong role in reducing blood pressure, stress and even helps you improve the effectiveness of your immune system. Some side effects that may be attributed to loss of humor are depression and other psychological disorders. They’ve compared the effect of laughter to drugs in a number of ways. If more people would become addicted to this “drug”, society might be a better place. Today’s a good day to start on it. Laughter as a science itself is important enough where researchers have spent lots of time on it, and still continue.

Remember the old saying, “laughter is the best medicine?” I am sure everyone has heard this as have I. Research shows that there is more truth to this than the usual evidence we all see in everyday life as well. They’ve proven it helps our hearts, blood flow, and in many other ways we never imagined. What, if someday you go to your physician and after your physical, they prescribe you a list of mash reruns and a few funny books? You might be surprised, though the prescription in some cases might be better than any pill on the market.
